How to Develop Unwavering Discipline

Everyone thinks extremely disciplined people are magically born with it but it’s actually the opposite.

The most disciplined people I know were at one point actually the laziest people.

How do I know this?

At one point in my life…I WAS ONE OF THEM.

Today I want to share how I was able to create MASSIVE amounts of discipline and how you can too!

Discipline has separated me from the competition, improved my marriage, gotten me in the best shape of my life, and helped me show up as an even better leader and father.

Developing discipline isn’t complicated yet most people struggle with it throughout their lives.

Especially in today’s society where temptations are only one click away on your phone.

Why cook a nutritious meal to fuel your body when there’s a food delivery app to get your favorite fast food meal?

Why even drive when you can just order a f@cking Uber?

Hell why even try to meet a potential spouse when you can go to that ‘favorite’ site of yours?

The convenience of everything has created a complacent society.

And that convenience is a recipe for a life of mediocrity that is full of anxiety, depression, and stress.

Here are some tips that have helped me develop unwavering discipline:

1) Control Your Environment

Just about everything now revolves around you using that 6-inch thing you love to hold…your phone

With all the notifications, text messages, and phone calls I receive throughout the day the one thing I found to keep me focused is to put my phone in Do Not Disturb and put the phone away in a different room.

When things are out of sight, you are less likely to be tempted by them. This goes with just about anything that will deter you away from your goals.

You are less likely to dominate your life if you allow your external environment to control it.

2) Do Hard Sh!t & Create Public Accountability

When I decided to give myself six weeks to prepare for a marathon, not only did I hire and pay my marathon coach in full but I let everyone around me know.

The reason I love doing 6-week challenges is that they not only get me out of my comfort zone but also help me build accountability by telling my family, friends, and staff about it.

Letting others know what I’m doing takes away any ability to negotiate with the inner b!tch that doesn’t want me to follow through. I’d rather follow through with what I say I’m going to do than be seen as someone who isn’t true to his word.

If you want to start your own 6-week challenge then sign up for my free 26.2 challenge. It’s the same protocol I used to prepare and dominate my marathon.

3) Audit Your Friend Circle

You’ve heard this quote before:

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”  – Jim Rohn

Look, I don’t care about the number…

Regardless of how many people you spend your time with they will eventually help you develop either a growth mentality or a crab mentality.

A growth mentality of helping you elevate to your higher self.

Or a crab mentality of negativity that holds you back from achieving your goals.

This is part of the reason why we created a group for all graduates of the MDK Project. At any moment any of the graduates can reach out to each other for support and lean on each other for guidance.

Audit your circle and choose carefully.

4) Action Trumps Everything

I have greater respect for the man who urgently executes a decent plan vs the man who spends a lifetime developing the perfect plan.

Before I ever franchised Fit Body Boot Camp I started doing boot camp training outside, rain or shine. Which led me to rent out gymnastic gyms during their off hours, which led to me starting the franchise.

At each stage, I adapted and reiterated my plan with the goal of franchising in mind. Fit Body Boot Camp wouldn’t be the worldwide recognized brand it is today if I hadn’t taken the action and adjusted the plan as I went along.

Whether it’s starting the business, changing the career, or following that dream, it will never be the right time and it will never be perfect.

Stop making excuses, there is no real way to be ready unless you just begin.

5) Get In Shape

A lot of people think that discipline is all mental but the truth is it starts with how you physically carry yourself.

There’s a reason why Fitness is one of the pillars we focus on in the MDK Project. Fitness is the gateway to unlocking your full potential and creating the life you want.

If you’re looking for a program then check out Battle Ready Fit, it’s been battle tested not only by me but hundreds of men.

Look, if you take anything from this post it’s to focus on your health if you want to increase your wealth.

Bonus Tip: Hire A Coach

There’s a reason why for every single one of my six-week challenges I’ve hired a coach. Because they’ve been down the path and have the knowledge to get me to where I want to be. Leading me to have less resistance, more accountability, and helping me reach my goal faster.

This is the same reason why individuals pay $100,000 for my yearly coaching program. Because I give them the roadmap to scale their businesses, keep them on track, and reach their goals sooner.

Finding a coach is an incredible way to help you follow through and develop long-term discipline.

Discipline is a habit. Build the habit.

Look, if you’ve never been disciplined it can be one of the most challenging things to develop…

but it isn’t rocket science.

It’s a habit developed through consistent work, focus, and willpower.

If you want to take control of your life and not live in mediocrity then developing discipline is crucial.

Hopefully, these tips help you get on the right track to developing unwavering discipline so that you can have an exceptional life full of meaning and impact.
