People love to think success comes down to luck or some secret “hack” nobody’s told them yet.
They chase shiny shortcuts and gimmicks hoping for overnight success – because that’s what Instagram has conditioned everyone to expect.
But all that does is keep them broke, confused, and stuck in the same damn place year after year.
I share this with you because success in business and life ISN’T random – it’s actually formulaic.
Success is built on rules.
Not the kind of rules society forces on you to stay small and ignorant…
…I’m talking about the rules that keep you sharp, focused, and away from the distractions that wreck most people’s goals and dreams.
Rules that protect your momentum and punch mediocrity in the mouth.
Over the years, I’ve discovered 5 rules that I never break.
Regardless of what season of life or business I’m in.
Ignore them, and you’ll stay stuck spinning your wheels, draining your energy, and burning through opportunity.
Here’s exactly how to avoid that and start winning again:
RULE #1: CHOOSE PURPOSE OVER PLEASURE
When life or business gets hard, most people check out.
They escape into whatever numbs the pain (social media, Netflix, booze, porn. etc..) doesn’t matter. They’re just looking to feel good instead of get better.
I used to tell myself I was being productive by answering every ping on my phone. Truth was, I was just hiding from the real work.
Distraction is a silent killer. It makes you feel busy while it steals your momentum.
Cut the BS. Get clear on your purpose. Then show up like it matters.
RULE #2: ACTION KILLS ANXIETY
You’re not anxious because you have too much on your plate.
You’re anxious because you keep avoiding what needs to get done.
That conversation you’ve been putting off?
That email you’re afraid to send?
That decision you keep dodging?
Handle it. Now.
Anxiety only grows in inaction. The second you take a step forward, the fear starts to die.
RULE #3: HOW YOU DO ANYTHING IS HOW YOU DO EVERYTHING
You think letting that trash pile up in your car doesn’t matter?
That skipping your workout “just this once” is no big deal?
Wrong.
Sloppiness in one area bleeds into all areas.
If you’re lazy with your mornings, you’ll be sloppy with your marketing.
If you tolerate toxic relationships, you’ll tolerate toxic clients.
Excellence is a habit. So is mediocrity.
Start treating every part of your life like it matters.
RULE #4: NEVER NEGOTIATE WITH YOUR INNER B!TCH
That voice in your head telling you, “It’s too hard,” or “Just do it tomorrow…”, that voice is your enemy. The inner b!tch as I like to say.
Every time you let it win, you lose a piece of yourself.
Soft men negotiate with weakness.
Strong men override it.
You weren’t built for easy. You were built for pressure.
And as you and I both know, life isn’t easy 24/7.
RULE #5: A BAD DAY ISN’T A BAD LIFE
You’re gonna have days that suck.
You’ll lose the sale.
You’ll get punched in the gut.
You’ll feel like nothing is working.
That’s part of the game.
But most people take a bad day and turn it into a bad week…then a bad month…then a wasted year.
A bad day is just that…a day.
Shake it off. Stack one small win. Keep going.
You’re way closer than you think.
These five rules have helped me win in life, business, leadership, and relationships.
Hopefully, you can adopt just one of these into your rules and start getting wins.

P.S. Every successful entrepreneur I know lives by some version of these rules.
Which is why at BK LIVE 2025, I’m bringing together the men and women who refuse to settle for average.
It’s where serious entrepreneurs come to build bulletproof businesses, become decisive leaders, and finally break through the crap that’s been holding them back.
