As always, I do a lot of thinking when I’m getting my morning workout in.
In the gym I fight my inner demons, focus on my health (by going to war with the weights) and have some “me time” to think and process before my crazy work day begins.
This morning, while in deep thought, I came to the conclusion that we are all selfish and greedy – these are factory installed traits.
We are born selfish and greedy and that’s a good thing to ensure survival when we’re young.
But as we grow older these traits don’t serve us anymore.
In fact, I think as we grow up and get into our late 20s 30s and beyond our goal is to gain more self-awareness, maturity, wisdom, and to connect with our higher self.
I think it’s easy to give a child, a teenager, or someone in their early 20s a pass when they are immature, selfish, greedy or entitled.
But at some point if we as men don’t evolve and learn to control these childish survival traits they would become unattractive, useless, and a liability to humanity.
And I think that’s what the human journey is all about … to shed our impulsive, selfish, greedy, entitled, emotional and reactive traits and to connect to our servants heart where we’re more generous, kind and compassionate towards others.
In other words to go from being a human animal, and rising up and becoming a human being.
I’m certain that is the greatest work we can do to make this world a better place, the work of self mastery…
