Like many successful people I know, my childhood was NOTHING like the typical American sitcom you see on TV.
There was no white picket fence, Fourth of July BBQs, and parents who have good stable jobs.
My childhood memories included:
– Living in Section 8 housing filled with gangs, drug dealers, and crime.
– Digging in dumpsters for food.
– And having my parents siphon gasoline to wash lice out of my hair because we were too poor to afford lice treatment.
If you had a traumatic childhood, you could easily use every excuse in the book. And most people would feel for you because those were the cards you were dealt with.
But what many don’t know, your childhood gave you everything you need to be successful.
They don’t know this because we’ve been raised on the mantra:
“That’s just the way it’s always been and always will be.”
We’ve been told to dream small and aim low because those big dreams aren’t for us.
Whether intentional or unintentional your parents, family, and friends have written the story of your life.
And some of you have accepted it.
And the truth is…
The only thing standing between you and everything you want in life is the story you keep telling yourself.
The story about who you are, what you can achieve, and the life you can live.
The story THEY wrote for you.
Based on their fears, their failures, and their unfulfilled dreams.
So if you want to change your life, start by changing your story.
Decide to be the one in your family who stops reading the book that was passed down to you, who picks up the pen, and starts to rewrite a new story.
One where you flip the switch, turn your big dreams into reality and smash every goddamn ceiling that was placed over you.
Take back the pen. Rewrite your story. Become the author of your life.
