This past weekend, I had 75 awesome fathers & sons come to the Blacksite Ranch to experience the Squire Program – a rite of passage for these boys as they go into manhood. 

We had them from 5:30 am to 6:30 pm so they could have one of the most bonding moments dads and sons could have together.

And the transformation between son and father is always something that I look forward to seeing.

A transformation that could only happen at the Squire Program.

When the boys first arrive many of them are uncertain, nervous, and a bit terrified.

While they might not have said it, some of these fathers looked just as uncomfortable as the boys.

The great thing about the Squire program is that we work with both sons AND fathers.

Helping sons build confidence, equipping them with the skills and traits they need to step into the role of a capable young man.

And guiding fathers to become better leaders, so that they can feel more capable in leading themselves and their families.

Both father and son left with a better understanding of what it means to be the protector and provider.

And both developed an unbreakable bond with each other.

A bond that no media outlet…

No social media post…

Or education system can take away.

And it was a chance for them to have an unforgettable experience that will be talked about for a lifetime.

The other day I met someone who could have easily won the anti-Oscar award for worst acting.

At Class 017 of the Modern Day Knight Project, we had a man who was sandbagging during one of the many hikes we go on. 

And this was on DAY 0…

…day zero is basically when we slowly ramp up on the Project and its pace. 

We hadn’t even started the full mental and physical gauntlet of the Project.

The worst part? This man was holding up his class.

I told him, “You need to hurry the f*ck up! Your class is suffering because you’re holding back.”

Instructor Steve had the rest of the class doing bear crawls up and down the hill until he caught up.

It was clear to me he had never faced any adversity in his life. 

You see, he has been conditioned to never push through adversity because no one has ever expected anything from him.

But what he failed to realize was he was in a bad position in life because he blamed everyone else for his failures. 

HE HAD NEVER TAKEN OWNERSHIP OF HIS OWN LIFE OR OWN ACTIONS!

Like many other men today, he’s become content with others writing his story for him.

Sandbagging through life.

Holding back their full potential.

Afraid of failure, what others will think of them, and even fear success.

A while back, I created a poll across my social media platforms. 

The question was simple: 

“As a man, would you rather have respect or love from a woman?”

Over 7,000 men responded, and the majority chose respect OVER love. 

And honestly – I’m not surprised.

Respect is what makes life easier. 

It’s crucial in EVERY relationship – in marriages, with family members, and in business. 

And the most crucial relationship you need to respect – yourself.

You see, as men, we measure each other by:

– How strong and capable we are (physically AND mentally)

– Our ability to protect and provide
